We are a family of animal lovers in County Durham who are slaves to our two gorgeous Irish Setters, Kira and Kestra.
Kira (Quensha Who's That Girl) (left) joined our family in June 2020 from her breeders during the peak of the covid lockdowns. This meant that all ringcraft classes and indeed shows themselves were cancelled. As complete newcomers to the art of showing dogs we sadly missed out while she was a puppy in getting her (and us!) familiar with this new set of skills we would need to master. However, Kira grew into the most loving, kind, gentle, biddable dog we could have ever wished for. She is truly one in a million and we are so blessed to have her in our lives.
Fast forward a few years. The world was back to normal. So we decided to embark on bringing a mini-Kira into the world in order so that we could see if the dog showing world was indeed something we enjoyed after all. Enter stage (right), Kestra (Scokira Emerald Dream).
Kira had a beautiful litter of puppies to sire Sh Ch Lanstara Spring Moon and, with the help of Rory's owners and some of their very experienced friends, 'Miss Purple' was to be the puppy we were to keep.
She is going from strength to strength and we are all learning so much along the way.
We are eternally grateful for all the help and support we have received along the way from Rory's owners and breeder.
We strive to bring the joy of owning (what in our opinion is THE best dog breed!) to more people. The joy our dogs have brought to our family is immeasurable. Our gorgeous girl Kira is genetically CLAD PRA clear and has excellent hip scores, meaning she is considered safe and suitable to breed from and that her progeny are eligible for KC registration. Not only this but her personality is a 12 out of 10. She is the most loving, affectionate, funny dog who always aims to please. She is a pleasure to live with, extremely quiet, content, biddable, full of personality and easy to train too. What more could you want from a prospective mum to your puppy?! 🐾
Our kennel name, Scokira, was inspired by blending our surname with the name of our gorgeous girl, Kira. I wanted our kennel name to include her name as, of course, she is the founding member of our line and had her first litter in early 2023.
We are a family with a passion for animals of all shapes and sizes, with a number of pets to boot! Sarah has spent almost her entire adult life working in animal welfare and the pet industry and is now a dog walker, pet sitter, qualified dog trainer and author of two animal care books.
We are a very small scale hobby breeder and are pretty new to the world of dog showing too. We have an awful lot to still learn but while we (and Kestra) are enjoying it we shall continue to see what the future holds.
Following an amazing response to our 2023 litter, we now have a waiting list for what will, all being well, be a 2024 litter. We haven't decided on a stud dog yet but rest assured, whoever 'daddy' ends up being will be fully health tested, KC registered dog. Watch this space for information on this in due course.
For now, Kira is enjoying being back to her old self, having lots of fun playing and running and getting filthy with her friends. She absolutely loves having Kestra to live with too which makes it all the more wonderful.
