About Scokira Irish Setters

Who are we?

We are a family of animal lovers in County Durham who are slaves to our three gorgeous Irish Setters, Kira, Kestra and Kassie.

Kira (Quensha Who's That Girl) (left) joined our family in June 2020 from her breeders during the peak of the covid lockdowns.  This meant that all ringcraft classes and indeed shows themselves were cancelled.  As complete newcomers to the art of showing dogs we sadly missed out while she was a puppy in getting her (and us!) familiar with this new set of skills we would need to master.  However, Kira grew into the most loving, kind, gentle, biddable dog we could have ever wished for.  She is truly one in a million and we are so blessed to have her in our lives.

Fast forward a few years.  The world was back to normal.  So we decided to embark on bringing a mini-Kira into the world in order so that we could see if the dog showing world was indeed something we enjoyed after all. Kestra (enter stage right), aka Scokira Emerald Dream.

Kira had a beautiful litter of puppies to sire Sh Ch Lanstara Spring Moon and, with the help of Rory's owners and some of their very experienced friends, 'Miss Purple' was to be the very first puppy we were to keep.

With a growing waiting list for puppies we decided to do it all over again to a purely pet stud dog this time as we wanted to try to breed a straighter coat into our next line of puppies, so along came Kassie (enter stage centre), our next keeper, 'Miss Blue' who is our Scokira Cassiopeia.

Both Kestra and Kassie are doing well in the show ring and both are perfect pets too, just like their mum, Kira. They are both very different in personalities but both are loving, eager to please, easy to train and kind.

Our first litter, born on May 1st 2023 are all named after 'May Day' and Irish related names, hence Scokira Emerald Dream for Kestra and our second litter, born April 22nd 2024 (because Kira decided to season early for the first time in her life, despite being like clockwork up 'til then!) are all named after constellations/nebulas - purely picked because I'm a bit of a space geek at heart - plus we wanted another K name so Cassiopeia easily became Kassie so that was that - the whole litter would be Kennel Club registered to space related names!

Why Choose Scokira Irish Setters

Quality Health Checked KC Registered Dogs

We strive to bring the joy of owning this amazing breed (which is, in our opinion is THE best dog breed!) to more people. The joy our dogs have brought to our family is immeasurable. Our gorgeous girl Kira is genetically CLAD PRA clear and has excellent hip scores, meaning she is considered safe and suitable to breed from and that her progeny are eligible for KC registration. Kestra will be next to join the breeding programme and her hip scores have come back great too, she is also genetically CLAD PRA clear. Kestra is such a sweet girl, extremely loving, kind, gentle and affectionate and very much a people pleaser. What more could you want from a prospective mum to your puppy?! 🐾

Who are we?

Our kennel name, Scokira, was inspired by blending our surname with the name of our gorgeous girl, Kira. I wanted our kennel name to include her name as, of course, she is the founding member of our line after having her first litter in early 2023.

We are a family with a passion for animals of all shapes and sizes, with a number of pets to boot! Sarah has spent almost her entire adult life working in animal welfare and the pet industry and is now a dog walker, pet sitter, qualified dog trainer and author of two animal care books.

All three of our girls live in our home, sleep on our beds, on our sofas, basically wherever they want - what's ours is basically theirs! They live in our home 24/7, we do NOT kennel our girls at all. They are, first and foremost, our family. If they asked to use the car, we'd probably let them!

Breeding and Showing

We are a very small scale hobby breeder and are still pretty new to the world of dog showing. We have learnt a LOT along the way though so if you are or have ever been tempted to give this hobby a try we are more than happy to help and advise but, equally, a quality home is far more important to us so if you aren't interested in showing then please don't hesitate to still get in touch - loving homes are FAR more important than any rosette or even 'Challenge Certificate' at the end of the day!

Future Litters

Following an amazing response to our 2023 and 2024 litters we have had Kestra's hip scores done and we are pleased to report that they are excellent so, all being well, she will be the next member of the family to have a litter of puppies. We do have a waiting list so if you would like to know more or to add your name to the list, please get in touch.
